Steel Magnolias Auditions

Come try out for the beloved southern drama, which will be performed at one of the most popular and legendary venues in Nevada City, Off Broadstreet!

Robert Harling's tragicomedy has enchanted audiences since its debut in 1987. Its reputation grew with the release of the hit 1989 film starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and many others. Now Lyric Rose is bringing this classic story of family, love, and loss to downtown Nevada City.

PLEASE PREPARE a one-minute monologue.

Rehearsal Days and Times are TBD. 

Performances will happen throughout November 2026. 

Auditions will be held at the Off Broadstreet Theater, 305 Commercial Street in Nevada City on Monday Aug. 17, starting at 6 pm.

TRUVY JONES – 40ish. Owner of the beauty shop.
ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO – 19. Beauty shop assistant.
CLAIREE BELCHER – 66ish. Widow of former mayor. Grande dame.
SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE – 25. Prettiest girl in town.
M’LYNN EATENTON – 50ish. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman.
OUISER (pronounced “Weezer”) BOUDREAUX – 66ish. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but lovable.

The women in this play are witty, intelligent, and above all, real characters. They in no way, shape or form are meant to be portrayed as cartoons or caricatures.
