La Cage Aux Folles! (The Birdcage)

~This is the musical that the movie "THE BIRDCAGE", starring Nathan Lane and Robin Williams, was based on.

Auditions for La Cage Aux Folles will be held on Sunday February 8th from 1-3:30pm, upstairs at The Center for the Arts Studios, 314 W Main St. Grass Valley, CA 95945. Please prepare a song to sing, bring your sheet music in the correct key, an accompanist will be provided. If you can not find sheet music for your selection, it is ok to sing to a track. If you are unable to join us for auditions in person, please submit your audition by email no later than 2/8/26 to: lyricrosetheatre@gmail.com.

All roles are open! The performances will take place at the Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City on May 29th, 30th, and 31st, as well as June 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th, and 20th with possible added performance dates TBD.

We would love to cast both Drag Queens and Kings and/or people who are comfortable being in drag of all genders, to be part of Les Cagelles Ensemble and featured roles. There are several featured ensemble roles!! The following is a general breakdown of all roles: 

• Albin: Baritone – the aging star of La Cage aux Folles who performs as the drag queen Zaza and Georges' husband.
• Georges: Bass – The owner and master of ceremonies of La Cage and Albin's husband of over 20 years.
• Jean-Michel: Tenor – Georges's 24-year-old son from a brief heterosexual fling in Paris, raised by Albin and Georges as "mother" and father.
• Jacob: Tenor – Albin and Georges's butler, although he prefers to be called the maid, who dreams of performing in their show. He is close to Albin and often at odds with Georges.
• Jacqueline: Alto – Albin and Georges's stylish, imposing friend and the owner of Chez Jacqueline, a well-known elegant restaurant.
• Anne Dindon: Mezzo-Soprano – Jean-Michel's fiancée.
• Edouard Dindon: Bass – Anne's ultra-conservative father and the deputy general of the Tradition, Family, and Morality Party.
• Marie Dindon: Soprano – Anne's mother and Edouard's wife.
• Francis – the stage manager of La Cage.
• M. Renaud – Albin and Georges' friend and the owner of the Promenade Café.
• Saint-Tropez Townspeople – Babette, Colette, Etienne, Hercule, Paulette, Mme. Renaud, and Tabarro.
• Les Cagelles, 12 ensemble drag performers who work at La Cage (six in the 2010 Broadway Revival) – Angelique, Bitelle, Chantal, Clo-Clo, Dermah, Hanna, Lo Singh, Mercedes, Monique, Nicole, Odette, and Phaedra.

Auditions will take place at Grass Valley Charter School (225 S Auburn St, Grass Valley, CA 95945) on Tuesday February 10th at 6:30pm.
This audition is for 12-18 year olds only. All roles are open. Please prepare a song to sing to a track. We will also have you dance in a short dance routine that we will teach you at the audition. Auditions will be seen on a first come first serve basis.
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm, and Saturdays from 10-1pm. Rehearsals start on February 17th.
Performances will take place at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge (109 S School St #3, Grass Valley, CA 95945) on May 1,2,3,8,9, and 10.

There is a participation fee of $150 for this project. There are scholarships available for those in need!
